PURPLE CLOUDS

Purple Clouds explores rain both as a physical phenomenon and as an emotional trigger and landscape. The sound of rain has a free rhythm; it is rhythmic noise, a natural polyrhythm. It can affect us in different ways—it can be soothing, creating a sense of timelessness, but it is also capable of evoking discomfort, stress, or even fear of nature as an uncontrollable force. This duality draws attention to the environmental role of rain, as well as to our individual cultural, symbolic, and emotional relationships with it.

The choreography lets the dancers respond to rain of different intensities—allowing it to imaginatively act on their bodies, letting its rhythms enter them, and eventually becoming rain themselves. The audience witnesses a constant tension between resisting and surrendering to the rain and, through this, is invited to experience rain not only as weather, but as rhythm, mood, and an embodied force that shapes how we move, feel, and live.
